COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior men's soccer player Seth Stammler has been named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Stammler, a native of Gahanna, Ohio, has a GPA of 3.89 in finance while helping the second-ranked Terps to a 17-2-1 record this season and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Stammler, a two-time team captain, has started every match at center back, and has played all but four minutes for the Terps this season. He has one goal and one assist and has been a key to Maryland's 11 shutouts this season. Stammler was also named to both the All-ACC First Team and the ACC All-Tournament Team.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Stammler and the Terps will be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m., when they open NCAA Tournament play against Old Dominion. Maryland (17-2-1) advanced to the College Cup last season.
