Two ACC Men's Soccer Players Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Teams
Nov. 19, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke junior Josh Bienenfeld and Wake Forest junior Zack Schilawski were named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Soccer First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The team, which was selected by a nationwide vote of members of CoSIDA, consisted of 33 men's soccer student-athletes, including 12 earning first-team distinctions. Bienenfeld is the first Duke men's soccer player to capture first-team Academic All-America honors in the program's history and the fourth to earn the recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Bienenfeld joins 2008 graduate Michael Videira as one of two juniors in Duke soccer history to be selected to a CoSIDA Academic All-America team. The native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., has started all 19 games for the Blue Devils this season. He sees action in both the midfield and at defense and currently ranks fourth on the team in minutes played. He tallied a goal against Harvard this year to help the Blue Devils beat the Crimson to win the Duke/Nike Classic. A native of Cary, N.C., Schilawski, who also earned ESPN The Magazine All-District honors in 2007, has seen time in all 20 games for Wake Forest this season, helping the team to an 18-1-1 record and a No. 1 ranking all season long. He is ranked third on the team with eight goals and has also added four assists. In 2007, Schilawski scored the game-winning goal in Wake's national title victory over Ohio State. For his career, Schilawski has 23 goals and 12 assists.
To be eligible for nomination at the District level, a student must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve on his or her team, and maintain a cumulative 3.30 grade point average on a scale of 4.00.
