GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer student-athletes were named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team as selected by CoSIDA on Wednesday. The pair of seniors in Duke’s Josh Bienenfeld and Wake Forest’s Zack Schilawski earns first-team honors for the second consecutive year as both prepare their respective squads for the NCAA Tournament.

Bienenfeld, a psychology major, is a three-year starter for the Blue Devils. As a senior this season, he led Duke to a 12-6-0 record and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup, the school’s 23rd overall appearance and sixth-straight. The Duke Blue Devils host Winthrop on November 19 at 7 p.m. in NCAA first-round action with the winner advancing to face No. 14 seed Michigan State on Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. A native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., Bienenfeld serves as the Blue Devils’ team captain this season. In 2006, he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team, and was also honored as the team’s Most Valuable Player as a freshman. Bienenfeld ranks in the top one percent of his class and has been an Emily K. Center Tutor.

Zack SchilawskiSchilawski, a native of Cary N.C., has remained one of the leading scorers for the Demon Deacons throughout his career. He has led third-ranked Wake Forest to a 14-3-2 record this season and the number three seed in the 2009 NCAA College Cup. The Deacs, who make their 14th NCAA appearance and ninth consecutive, will host the winner of UNC-Wilmington and Charlotte on November 22 at 1 p.m. A first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, he led the ACC with 11 goals and 26 points, while helping Wake win a share of this year’s ACC regular season crown. A biology major and the third-leading scorer in Wake Forest history, Schilawski scored the game-winning goal in the 2007 NCAA Championship game against Ohio State. In addition, as a junior, he scored 11 goals and five assists. A finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Schilawski was also the 2008 ACC Scholar-Athlete for men’s soccer.
