CARY, N.C. - The Wake Forest Demon Deacons topped the Boston College Eagles 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the ACC Men's Soccer Championship at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Steven Curfman led the Demon Deacon offensive attack with a goal and an assist including the game-winner in the 38th minute of action.

Wake Forest took a 1-0 lead just before halftime as Curfman notched his fourth goal of the season. The junior midfielder scored an unassisted goal blasting a shot from just outside the box into the top right corner of the net.

In the 55th minute, the Demon Deacons were threatening to add to their lead on a break away by Michael Lahoud, but in an attempt to breakup the play Eagle goalie Issey Maholo was issued a red card after committing a hand ball outside the box. Maholo made a diving stop on Lahoud's shot when the ball went off the keeper's hands resulting in a card. Boston College would play the remaining 35 minutes a man down.

Wake Forest would score its second goal of the game as Curfman sent a long pass down the left side to Justin Moose who beat Boston College goalie Shane Boggis one-on-one. Moose deposited the ball into the right side of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Less than six minutes later, the Demon Deacons would counter again this time off the foot of Wells Thompson. Thompson beat a pair of Eagle defenders from the top of the box for his fifth goal of the year and a 3-0 Wake Forest advantage.

In the 87th minute, Wake's Evan Brown scored his first collegiate goal from the top of the box off an assist from goalie Brian Edwards. The assist by Edwards was his first career point.

The win moves Wake Forest to 11-6-2 on the season and into the quarterfinals where they will face top-seeded Maryland on Wednesday, November 9 at 2:30 pm. With the loss, Boston College falls to 5-9-2 on the season.
