![]() Clemson's Savage and Virginia's Restrepo Share ACC Men's Soccer Weekly Accolades
Nov. 3, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson freshman forward Austin Savage and Virginia junior goalkeeper share this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honor after leading their respective teams to undefeated finishes against ranked ACC opponents. Savage scored a goal at the 84:46 mark in leading Clemson to a 1-0 victory over 11th-ranked NC State in ACC men's soccer action Friday night. The rookie scored two goals in the Tigers’ 6-0 win over North Greenville University earlier in the week before scoring the game’s lone goal in Clemson’s upset on the road. This marked the second ranked opponent that the Tigers have defeated this season, while both matches were on the road. The Tigers also defeated then-ranked No. 8 Virginia on Sept. 26 at Charlottesville, Va.
Clemson and Virginia are both back in action tonight for their final non-conference games of the season. The Tigers travel to Longwood and the Cavs host American in Klöckner Stadium. Kick-off for the Clemson/Longwood match-up is slated for 4 p.m., while Virginia vs. American is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Men’s Championship, featuring defending NCAA champion Maryland and six current Top-15 teams, opens with a first-round game between the eighth- and ninth-seeded teams on Tuesday, November 10. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, followed by the semifinals on Friday evening, November 13, and the title game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 15. ACC Men’s Championship seedings and pairings will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9. Ticket sales are currently underway, and several special offers are available for each event.
