ACC Men's Soccer Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Duke Blue Devils, 2006 ACC co-regular season champions, and the Virginia Cavaliers led all schools with four honorees each on the this year's All-Conference teams as announced on Monday.
All nine schools were represented on this year's All-ACC first- and second-teams. In addition to Duke, which placed a pair of Blue Devils on the All-ACC first-team, Maryland and Wake Forest added two apiece, while the Cavs notched a trio on the All-ACC second-team.
Maryland, which serves as host for the 2006 ACC Men's Soccer Championship, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 31, earned two individual awards as sophomore Chris Seitz was named Defensive Player of the Year and Jeremy Hall was tabbed as 2006 ACC Freshman of the Year. Seitz recorded a career-high eight saves in a 2-1 win against Virginia Tech to conclude the 2006 regular season. He improved his season save percentage to .774 and is currently allowing just 0.71 goals per game.
Rookie forward Hall captures the first Freshman of the Year honor for the Terrapins. Hall ranks second among Maryland players with six goals on the season and third in points with 15.
Charlie Davies of Boston College was honored as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Davies leads all ACC players and ranks second in the nation in scoring as the freshman has tallied 15 goals in 15 games played this season. Davies averages 2.40 goals per game and has recorded six assists this season. The Eagles forward leads a scoring offense that ranks 14th in the nation in goals per game (2.04).
For the third time in his career, Wake Forest's Jay Vidovich was selected as the 2006 ACC Coach of the Year. Vidovich helped the Demon Deacons secure its place as ACC regular season co-champions for the 2006 season. It marks the third time in five seasons that Wake has earned this honor.
North Carolina and Wake Forest lead all ACC schools in all-time All-Freshman honors as both teams have recorded eight All-Freshman selections. The Deacs added two rookies to the list this season and the Tar Heels added one.
