Lovejoy Named ACC Player of the Week
Oct. 16, 2012
GREENSBORO, N.C .- North Carolina junior forward Rob Lovejoy has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week , announced by conference officials on Tuesday.
Lovejoy, who missed the first 12 games of the season due to offseason surgery, made the most of his season debut Saturday evening as he scored all three goals in a 3-0 win over College of Charleston. The hat trick was the first of his career and the first by a Tar Heel since Alex Dixon accomplished the feat in 2009 against Stetson in a 7-0 UNC win.
His hat trick is the fourth by an ACC student-athlete this season. Luca Gimenez (Wake Forest), Will Bates (Virginia) and David Clemens (Virginia Tech) each accomplished the feat earlier this season.
The Greensboro, N.C., native was also named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week and to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week for his efforts on Monday.
Following a full slate of nonconference games on Tuesday, league action continues on Friday, Oct. 19 with eight teams in action. Friday's lineup includes North Carolina at Maryland on ESPNU, Virginia at Virginia Tech on Regional Sports Networks, and Duke hosting Boston College live on the ACC Digital Network on YouTube.
