Oct. 6, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke’s Ryan Finley was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after leading his 14th-ranked Blue Devils to a pair of home wins, improving the squad to a flawless 6-0 at Koskinen Stadium this season. The freshman forward tallied both game-winning goals in the 2-0 week. Finley scored his fourth goal of the season in the second-half of Duke’s 2-1 victory over Elon on Tuesday. The Lumberton, N.J., native took just one shot against the Phoenix. Three days later, the rookie played all 90 minutes and registered what proved to be the game-winner in an upset of second-ranked Maryland. Finley, who is the third Blue Devil to receive an ACC weekly nod this season, now leads his 2009 team with five goals and is second in overall points with 11. He is tied for the lead in goals and game-winning goals in the ACC and is third in points. In addition, he leads all freshmen in goals and points in the ACC. Duke takes to the road next when it travels to face Davidson College tonight. The Blue Devils and Wildcats square off at 7 p.m.
