GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Neil Barlow was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after leading his 20th-ranked Cavaliers to a pair of victories, improving their record to 4-1 on the season.

The senior midfielder scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 shutout against Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday. Barlow registered the game-winning goal, the third game-winner of his career, in the 38th minute to give UVa the victory. The goal marked Barlow’s second on the season and fifth of his career.

Against Wake Forest, the Herndon, Va., native had the game-winning assist to key the Cavaliers’ road upset of the second-ranked Demon Deacons. The Cavs were able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity off of a corner kick in the 24th minute. Barlow served the ball and junior defender Mike Volk fired a shot from close range that trickled over the goal line. The assist marked Barlow’s team-high second assist on the season.

Virginia’s win marked No. 199 for Cavalier head coach George Gelnovatch, who will go for his 200th-career victory as Virginia returns home to Klöckner Stadium on Tuesday. The Cavs face George Washington at 7 p.m. ET.
