GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior forward Martin Murphy has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week following his role in the Tar Heels conference-opening win over Virginia Tech. It is the second consecutive week Murphy has claimed the honor.
The Cary, N.C., native, scored both goals in a 2-0 shutout of the Hokies. His game winner in the 14th minute was his third game-winning tally in as many games. Murphy found of the back of the net less than two minutes later to give UNC a two-goal cushion and extend its home unbeaten streak to an NCAA-leading 30 games.
Murphy, who leads the undefeated Tar Heels with four goals, was also named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week on Monday.
