North Carolina's Schuler Named ACC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina junior forward Billy Schuler has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after leading the Tar Heels to two victories, including a 2-1 win over top-ranked Louisville in which he scored the game-wining goal.
Schuler found the back of the net in the 74th minute for the tie-breaking goal against the Cardinals on Sunday, a victory that vaulted UNC to the top spot in this week’s Top Drawer Soccer, College Soccer News and Soccer America rankings. Two days earlier on Friday, Schuler had scored a pair of goals to key a 5-1 win over Oregon State.
Schuler has scored in all three games this season, all three of which have been game winners for UNC. Schuler, who was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, is tied for the ACC lead with four goals on the year and is averaging 1.33 per contest. The Allentown, N.J., native played just two games in 2010 and has made an immediate impact for the Tar Heels since returning from injury.
