Sept. 4, 2012
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior forward Martin Murphy has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer player of the week following his role in a pair of Tar Heel victories over West Virginia and Boston University.
The Cary, N.C., native, scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over West Virginia on Aug. 31, and converted a decisive penalty kick to break the 1-1 draw and help lift the Tar Heels over Boston University, 2-1 on Sept. 2. Through three games, the former midfielder turned forward is UNC’s co-leader on offense with two goals.
The player of the week nod is his first of his career.
