GREENSBORO, N.C. – Headlined by three Wake Forest student-athletes, the ACC placed six men’s soccer players on the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List, released Tuesday. The top ranked Demon Deacons are one of only three teams, along with Connecticut and Saint Louis, to have three players on the watch list.

Considered the highest individual honor in college soccer, the recipients of the Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the NSCAA.

The ACC has registered at least six on the preseason watch list for three consecutive years, while the league has earned the national accolade a total of 13 times. The latest ACC winner, Maryland’s Jason Garey, guided his Terrapins in 2005 to the school’s first NCAA Championship since 1968, leading the nation in scoring with 22 goals.

The Hermann Trophy Watch List consists of 48 players, including the 2007 winner, Connecticut’s O’Brian White. White is looking to become the first player to repeat as Hermann Trophy winner since 1995 and 1996. The watch list will be narrowed down to 15 semifinalists in November, and the three finalists will be selected in early December. The winner of the Hermann Trophy will be announced on January 9, 2009, in St. Louis, Mo.
