Six ACC Teams Ranked In Preseason NSCAA Men's Soccer Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Defending National Champion Virginia earned the No. 2 ranking and was one of six Atlantic Coast Conference teams to earn a spot in the 2010 Preseason NSCAA Men’s Soccer National Rankings released Tuesday. The Cavaliers (19-3-3) were joined by Wake Forest (No. 3) and North Carolina (No. 4) in the top five. The Demon Deacons (17-4-3) and the Tar Heels (16-2-4) are both coming off appearances in the NCAA College Cup semifinals. Wake Forest lost to Virginia in overtime, while North Carolina fell to Akron on penalty kicks. The Zips were tabbed the preseason No. 1 after going undefeated in the regular season. Virginia topped Akron in the championship game, winning the penalty kick shootout 3-2 following a 0-0 draw. The Cavaliers finished the 2009 campaign on a 16-game winning streak. Maryland (15-6-2) was the fourth league team to earn a ranking, coming in at No. 6. Duke (No. 11) and Boston College (No. 12) rounded out the conference’s selections. Also receiving votes in the poll was NC State.
