COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three former Terrapins are competing in the emergent MLS.

1998-99 Terrapin Danny Califf has started 12 of 14 games at defense for the Los Angeles Galaxy, logging the second largest amount of minutes played. On March 6, he scored a game-winning overtime goal against the Kansas City Wizards. While at Maryland, he was part of the Terrapins' run to the national semifinals in 1998 and a key to the defensive unit. Last summer, he was part of the United States' Olympic team that competed in Sydney, Australia.

Leo Cullen, a 1999 All-Star, returned this season from a torn right MCL. The defender has logged one assist in his 10 appearances for the first place Miami Fusion. His career at Maryland included a 1996 ACC Championship, as well as garnering 1997 ACC Player of the Year honors.

Nick Downing, another defender, is beginning to establish himself in his rookie season on the New England Revolution roster. A Project-40 player, Downing decided to forgo his final year of eligibility to begin his MLS career. He, like Califf, was part of the Terps' 1998 national semifianl team.

1998 All-American Taylor Twellman is also in the professional ranks, playing for 1860 Munich in the German Bundesliga.
