CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Three players from the University of Virginia men's soccer team were named to the U.S. U-20 National Team that will compete in the XIth FIFA World Youth Championships on June 17 - July 8 in Argentina. The trio of Kenny Arena (Fairfax, Va./Oakton), Alecko Eskandarian (Montvale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Kyle Martino (Westport, Conn./Staples) will represent UVa as they compete for the United States.

U.S. under-20 coach Wolfgang Suhnholz announced the 18-man roster that includes five professional players, two members of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team and three players who have made an appearance with the senior national team. Virginia's Arena, Eskandarian and Martino make up three of a total eight players selected from Atlantic Coast Conference schools that made the 18-man roster. Clemson also had three players named to the U.S. U-20 squad when Ricky Lewis, Oguchi Onyewu and Doug Warren joined Wake Forest's Brian Carroll and Maryland's Philip Salyer from the ACC.

Arena, a rising third-year midfielder for UVa, recorded 10 points on four assists and three goals as a Cavalier. Two of his assists and one of his goals were game-winners. Eskandarian, a rising second-year forward for UVa, recorded 38 points on 16 goals and six assists in his first season at Virginia. Four of his goals and three of his assists were game-winners. Martino, a rising third-year midfielder for UVa, recorded 35 points on 13 assists and 11 goals. Four of his goals and three of his assists were game-winners.

The United States will be competing in its third consecutive World Youth Championship for the first time in U.S. Soccer history.
