Men's Soccer Earns 3-1 Exhibition Win Over New England Revolution
April 24, 2006 Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Charlie Davies scored two goals for Boston College as the men's soccer team defeated Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, 3-1, in an exhibition game in Foxboro, Mass. Davies was impressive in one of his first stints back after missing nearly the entire 2005 season with a knee injury. In the 35th minute, he buried the game winner on a thrilling bicycle kick from 18 yards out off a Ryan Sherman feed. The sophomore forward added his second goal in the 55th minute, collecting a turnover and drilling a shot past Revs keeper T.J. Tomasso. BC came out of the gate firing and needed less than a minute to take an early 1-0 advanatage, as freshman Greg O'Neil started the scoring for the Eagles. New England finally broke through in the 60th minute as Clint Dempsey took a pass from Taylor Twellman and found the back of the net for the only Revs score. Reuben Ayarna nearly added a fourth goal for the Eagles, but Tomasso made a diving save on the the freshman's attempt. Both Issey Maholo and Shane Boggis played well in goal, turning away five shots from New England, who boasts six former ACC players on its roster.
