Duke Adds Two Members to Nationally Recognized 2004 Men's Soccer Recruiting Class
April 23, 2004 Two additional incoming freshmen have been added to the nationally recognized 2004 Duke University Men's Soccer recruiting class. Head coach John Rennie has announced the signing of Kyle Kaveny (Cupertino, Calif.) and Kevin Stevenson (Raleigh, N.C.) to an already impressive class that was recognized by TopDrawerSoccer.com as one of the top recruiting classes in the country.
KAVENY, Kyle
Kyle Kaveny comes to Duke University with a great deal of experience at the youth level. Kaveny is currently a central defender on the nation's top-ranked San Juan SC Predators. In 2003, Kaveny captained his De Anza Ruckus team to a US Club Soccer National Championship, as well as Cal Cup and Portland Cup Championships. As the captain of the St. Francis H.S. team, Kaveny was named WCAL All-League and team Most Valuable Player.
STEVENSON, Kevin
Kevin Stevenson enters Duke as one of the most successful high school players in North Carolina this past season. Stevenson was the captain at Ravenscroft and led the team to a semi-final appearance in the 3A Independent School Championships in 2003. He was named NCSCA Region 1 Co-Player of the Year and first team All-State, All-Region and All-Conference for his efforts. He scored 22 goals and 18 assists from his central midfield position. Stevenson also participated with the 85 CASL Elite this past summer when they were North Carolina State Cup Champions and USYSA Region III Finalists.
