COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team has announced its 2000 schedule, highlighted by contests against two-time defending national champions Indiana, as well as playing host to the FILA/Maryland Invitational Tournament and traveling to Charlottesville, Va., for the Coca-Cola Classic Tournament.

"Maryland has a tradition of playing the best teams in the country, and we've once again challenged ourselves with an extremely competitive schedule," said head coach Sasho Cirovski on the Terps' 2000 schedule. "We've put together not only a great preseason tournament, but also a regular season in which we are playing a number of the teams that are perennially among the top 10 teams in the country."

The Terps' FILA Preseason College Kick-off Tournament, an exhibition tournament fueled by an ACC/Big East challenge flair, will pit both Maryland and fellow ACC member Virginia against Big East members St. John's and Georgetown the weekend of August 25 and 26. Maryland then opens its regular season at the Virginia Coca-Cola Classic on Sept. 1 against Jacksonville, with its second-round match-up against South Florida on Sept. 3. A week later, the Terps host the FILA/Maryland Invitational, which includes 1999 NCAA champion Indiana, South Carolina, and Virginia from Sept. 8-10.

An always competitive ACC schedule brings 1999 conference champion Duke to College Park, as well as North Carolina, and Clemson. The Terps will take to the road against ACC foes N.C. State, Wake Forest, and Virginia to end the regular season on Nov. 3. Maryland's non-conference slate includes games against local rivals like American, George Mason, Loyola, and UMBC, as well as Duquesne, William & Mary, and Virginia Commonwealth. The 2000 ACC tournament will once again be held at Wake Forest between Nov. 9-12.

Maryland finished 14-6 in 1999, receiving its sixth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Terps' 14 regular season wins were the most ever in Maryland history. The Terps' also received their first-ever No. 1 ranking from Soccer America for two weeks during the regular season. Maryland returns five seniors this season, as well as regional All-American Nick Downing (Redmond, Wash.) and first-team All-ACC pick Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.) on defense.
