Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina head coach Elmar Bolowich released on Tuesday the 2000 signing class for the Tar Heel men's soccer program. The class includes seven student-athletes -- three midfielders, two defenders, a forward and a goalkeeper. Four of the signees attending North Carolina high schools.

The class includes two members of the US Youth National Team - forward Sean McGinty (Charlotte, N.C.) and midfielder Logan Pause (Hillsborough, N.C.). The group also features five members of regional Olympic Development Program teams - McGinty, defender Andrew Moon (Jacksonville, N.C.), Pause, midfielder Grant Porter (Charlotte, N.C.) and defender David Stokes (Dumfries, Va.). Porter is the younger brother of rising Tar Heel senior midfielder Carson Porter.

"We're very excited about this group of incoming student-athletes, especially because it includes so many top-quality in-state recruits," Bolowich says. "Sean McGinty, Logan Pause and Grant Porter have all been part of the National Team pool. Andrew Moon is also a good prospect from the state of North Carolina. David Stokes and Jason Batt are both from Virginia and Scott Rodgers is from Texas. All of them are excellent additions to the program as well."

Sixteen student-athletes on Carolina's 2000 fall roster will be from the state of North Carolina.

"I'm really looking forward to working with this group of players because as a group they are good students, good people and good players," Bolowich says. "They will fit right in with our team."

McGinty has been a member of the US Youth National Team since 1997 and the Region III ODP team since 1996. A two-time NSCAA High School All-America, he was the Charlotte Observer's Player of the Year in both 1998 and '99. He scored 34 goals as a prep senior. Pause has been a member of the US Youth National Team since 1999 and the Region III ODP team since 1998.

Porter was the N.C. High School Player of the Year in 1999 and has been a member of the Region III ODP team since 1997. He was named an NSCAA High School All-America as a senior last fall.
