Virginia Men's Soccer Hands Wake Forest Its First Loss Of Season

CARY, N.C. -- It took a Wake Forest own goal to decide the first semifinal match at the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship at the SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C. The fourth-seeded Virginia Cavaliers defeated the top-seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons to advance to Sunday's Championship game.

The lone goal on the evening came at the 29:55 mark as Virginia's Alecko Eskandarian crossed the ball into the six-yard box and a Wake Forest defender slid into the cross, putting the ball into the Wake Forest goal.

With the victory, Virginia improves to 15-5-0 while Wake Forest suffers its first loss of the seasonwitha record of 14-1-4. Virginia advances to Sunday's Championship match where it will face the winner of the Clemson vs. Maryland match. Sunday's Championship match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
