BOYDS, Md. - Yannick Reyering and Adam Cristman scored goals as third-seeded Virginia shutout sixth-seeded Clemson, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2006 ACC Men's Soccer Championship at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Nico Colaluca and Jonathon Villanueva tallied the assists in the win.

The Cavaliers advance to play second-seeded Wake Forest in the first semifinal on Friday November 3 at 5:30 p.m. Wake Forest advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4, against North Carolina earlier in the day after the two sides failed to score in 100 minutes of play.

Virginia scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the half. The Cavaliers' two leading scorers hooked up for the first tally of the night in the 20th minute. Yannick Reyering slipped a shot past Phil Marfuggi after Nico Colaluca found him ona through ball from the right wing.

Then, in the 23rd minute, Adam Cristman beat Marfuggi as he came off his line after Jonathon Villanueva found him on the right side of the box, making the score 2-0 at the half

Clemson came inches away from scoring their first goal of the match with 37:30 left in the game. After a foul right outside the box on the right side, the Tigers' direct kick was sent into the box. After the ball bounced around, Mark Bucholz got a head on the ball and redirected towards the goal. Ian Holder prevented the goal as he headed the ball out of danger when the keeper was out of position.

With just over 32 minutes on the clock, Virginia almost tallied its third goal if the night when Reyering sent a blast towards the goal. Marfuggi was in position, however, and deflected away the hard shot.

Clemson's Frederico Moojen got a good chance at goal with 16:30 left in the game. In front of the box, he ripped a blast towards his mark, but the shot was blocked by the Cavalier defense before it reached keeper Ryan Burke.

Burke finished the night with six saves for Virginia while Marfuggi recorded five.
