RALEIGH, N.C. - Duke, ranked No. 2 nationally, scored four second-half goals to earn a 5-0 win over NC State today at Method Road Soccer Stadium. Freshman midfielder Noah Lewkowitz and senior defender Evan Whitfield were each credited with an assist and goal in the victory.

A cross by Whitfield slipped through NC State goalkeeper Eric Handley's hands and was sent into an open net by sophomore Stephen Pate for the Blue Devils first score at the 26:18 mark. Despite 14 first-half shots by Duke, the score was 1-0 at the half. Handley made five saves in the first half, finishing the game with nine. The nine saves ties an ACC single-game high this season, matching an earlier mark Handley set in the Wolfpack's matches against Georgia Southern and Virginia.

Duke pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 65:52 mark after Whitfield brought the ball upfield himself and sent a shot past Handley. Senior midfielder Jay Heaps pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 73:03 mark, followed by Lewkowitz's breakaway goal at 78:09. The Blue Devils final goal came with less than three minutes remaining, when sophomore defender Ryan Furgurson took an assist from Lewkowitz at the 87:41 mark.

The two teams were whistled for a total of 61 fouls in the match. Five NC State players were issued yellow cards, while Duke earned three cards.

NC State (4-9, 0-5) returns to action this Wednesday, hosting UNC Wilmington at 3:00 p.m. at Method Road Soccer Stadium. The Blue Devils improve to 13-1 overall, 4-1 in the ACC.
