No. 2 Tar Heels Down Liberty, 1-0 With the Tar Heels dominating possession and the shot totals, Schuler's 75th-minute header gave UNC the advantage it pressed for after intermission. After the UNC defense blocked a shot attempt by the Flames (5-2-2), junior midfielder Michael Farfan, who fired six shots on the night, beat three defenders up the left side before chipping a cross to Schuler at far post to set up the game-winner. Schuler drove home his fourth goal with a six-yard header just inside the left post for third game-winner, which matches Cameron Brown for the team lead. Carolina's goal was the first score allowed by Liberty in four games and just the third the Flames have yielded all season No. 6 Wake Forest Downs UNC Greensboro, 3-0 Wake Forest improves to 7-2-1 on the season, while UNCG drops to 3-5-3 on the year. For the second consecutive game, the Demon Deacons grabbed an early lead as Schilawski made the score 1-0 with a tally in the eighth minute. Wake Forest doubled the lead in the 32nd minute on a goal from Austin da Luz. Bone closed out the scoring with a goal in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-0. Terps Drop Loyola (Chicago), 1-0
Kaoru Forbess notched his first career goal in the 26th minute to put Maryland on the board and snap a two-game scoring skid. His header from the far side of the box came off a solid cross from Terrapin senior Kwame Darko, who drove the ball 10 yards down the near sideline and floated a perfect ball to Forbess. It was also Darko's first career assist. Maryland (6-3-1), which leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in shots averaging nearly 19 per game, held the Ramblers to one shot in the first half while mustering eight of its own. No. 18 NC State Earns Shutout Over Wofford, 2-0 The Wolfpack would open the scoring in the 64th minute of action. Sophomore Farouk would collect the ball in the middle of the field, and feed a pass down the right wing to junior Lucas Carpenter. After a couple of touches, Carpenter would send a cross into the Terriers box and senior Alan Sanchez got his head to the ball and scored the eventual game winner at the 63:15 mark. NC State would add an insurance goal with just 52 seconds left. An errant clearance by Wofford keeper Jared Ziegler was collected by junior Chris Zuerner, who turned the chance into a breakaway and netted his second score of the season in the final minute of action. Boston College Drops 2-1 Decision To Yale Milan Tica tied the score with a header off a corner kick at 70:04 and Aden Farina-Henry one-timed the game-winning goal at 80:57 to lift the Bulldogs to victory. Goalkeeper Travis Chulick recorded four saves. Yale improves its record to 3-4-2 while Boston College falls to 5-6. Duke Falls at Davidson Duke falls to 7-3-0 overall on the year, while Davidson moves to 9-1-0 for the season. Davidson wasted no time getting on the board just three minutes into the game. After possessing the ball in Duke's defensive third, the Wildcats earned a corner kick. Charlie Reiter stepped and served the ball directly into the six-yard box and Brian McGue headed the ball home for the 1-0 lead. Radford upsets Tech, 3-1 The Hokies (3-5-2) dominated possession from the kickoff and controlled the ball for the majority of the first half. Tech made a statement early, earning a quick shot in the first minute of play from freshman Gregory Cochrane that soared wide. The Hokies then added two more shots within the first five minutes and finished the half with six attempts. Tech was first to get on the scoreboard in the 36th minute thanks to a spectacular defensive play. Senior Alexander Baden stopped a Radford offensive attack to set up the Hokies’ scoring opportunity, stealing the ball and blasting it up the field. Albert Alwang gathered it and crossed the ball in front of the net, where Radford’s goalie Ryan Taylor deflected it. Emmanuel Akogyeram handled the rebound and sent it to the back of the goal to earn his third score of the season and give Tech the 1-0 advantage, which would stand for the remainder of the half. |
