  • CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 4 ranked Virginia men's soccer team recorded its first ACC win of the season, downing North Carolina 2-1 Saturday night at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers got goals from Yannick Reyering (Mettingen, Germany) and Chris Tierney (Wellesley, Mass.), as they improved to 7-1-2 on the year, 1-0-2 in the ACC.

"I told the guys that to get a win tonight we needed to do the extra things," said head coach George Gelnovatch. "We got several of those plays, like Neil Barlow saving a goal off the line and Chris following up a shot and getting the second goal off a rebound. In the conference standings, we needed to get three points tonight. We got that and also got some momentum heading into Clemson next week."

NC State Falls in Final Minute

RALEIGH, N.C. - Visiting Radford used a goal in the first minute of the contest and a second with five seconds remaining to defeat the NC State men's soccer team, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Method Road. After falling behind early, the Wolfpack (4-4-3) tied the score in the 70th minute, but just as the game was heading for overtime, the Highlanders (5-4) found the gamewinner as time was winding down.

Radford jumped on the scoreboard first just 45 seconds into the contest. James Leith took a deep throw-in and the ball rolled all the way across the field where Radford's Davor Husadzinovic tucked the ball into the net.
