Clemson defeats Fourth-Ranked Maryland, 5-3 CLEMSON, SC - Michael Brooks scored four goals and had one assist in leading Clemson in a 5-3 upset win over fourth-ranked Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference men's soccer match at Clemson, SC Friday night. The Tigers' Greg Eckhardt also had two assists in the victory. With the win, Clemson improves to 3-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the ACC. Maryland falls to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in league play. Jeremy Hall scored two goals for Maryland and Doug Rodkey had two assists for the Terrapins. Read more from Clemson. Tchani’s PK Leads Virginia Past No. 12 North Carolina, 1-0 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Tony Tchani scored his team-high eighth goal of the season, a penalty kick in the 85th minute, and Virginia defeated No. 12 North Carolina, 1-0, on the road Friday night. “This game was another example of us grinding out a victory on the road,” Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch said. “We played with a lot of heart and we were organized and disciplined, which got us the win. Grella Tallies Overtime Goal To Lift Blue Devils Over Boston College CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Duke University senior midfielder Mike Grella tallied a goal in the 102 minute to lead the Blue Devils to a crucial 1-0 double overtime victory over ACC foe Boston College in men’s soccer action tonight. It is Grella’s ninth goal of the season and fourth in the past two games. “I always say that good teams always find ways to win even when they’re not playing well,” head coach John Kerr said. “We didn’t play well for most of the game, but our defense held strong.
