Terps Rout Duquesne, 7-0
The No. 4 Maryland men's soccer team ignited for seven goals, highlighted by a hat trick by Casey Townsend, on Tuesday night in a 7-0 shutout of Duquesne at Ludwig Field.

Matt Kassel continued his solid play in 2009 with a goal in the 13th minute. The sophomore midfielder lined up for a free kick 25-yards out and laced it past the keeper for the eventual game-winner.

The Terps (3-1) needed fewer than two minutes to find their way back on the scoreboard as fellow classmate Casey Townsend headed home his first goal of the 2009 campaign. The forward from Traverse City, Mich., who was second on the team with 11 goals last season, utilized a deflection off of Jason Herrick after a Kassel corner kick.

The 20th-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team shut out Mount St. Mary’s, 1-0, Tuesday night at Klöckner Stadium. Senior midfielder Neil Barlow (Herndon, Va.) scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute to give UVa the victory.

With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 3-1 on the year, while Mount St. Mary’s fell to 1-4.

Virginia out-shot The Mount, 18-2, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. After multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, the Cavaliers got on the board when Barlow bent a ball from 12 yards out to the far post and past Mount St. Mary’s goalkeeper Chris Davis for his second goal of the season.

Four Second Half Goals Lift No. 23 NC State Over Campbell
