#3 Clemson Blanks Tar Heels, 5-0
September 13, 1998 CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson's Wojtek Krakowiak netted three goals as the Tigers exploded for four second-half goals and shutout the North Carolina men's soccer team, 5-0, Sunday afternoon. Clemson, ranked third in the latest NSCAA poll, improved to 5-0 in 1998, 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Carolina fell to 2-2, 0-1.
Clemson led just 1-0 at halftime on a Krakowiak goal at the 12:12 mark, but Scott McIlroy and Scott Bower each scored in the first 8:27 of the second half to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Clemson cruised the rest of the way, with Krakowiak adding two more goals for the final, 5-0 margin.
The Tar Heels were outshot, 15-9, in the game and could manage just five shots and one corner kick after halftime. Clemson goalkeeper Josh Campbell sparkled for the Tigers, recording seven saves for his second solo shutout of the '98 campaign.
Carolina returns to action Friday when it hosts the Nike Carolina Classic at Fetzer Field. Cornell will face UNC Greensboro at 5:00 p.m. and the Tar Heels will host Dayton at 7:00 p.m.
