No. 1 Wake Forest Defeats Clemson 5-0 in ACC Opener WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The top-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team scored a season-high five goals and easily defeated Clemson 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Spry Stadium. The Deacons move to 5-0-0 on the year, while the Tigers drop to 1-3-1. Akira Fitzgerald continued to play well in goal, recording his fourth consecutive shut out. Fitzgerald made two saves in the contest and has not allowed a goal in the last 410:09 played. It appeared Wake Forest would get on the board in the 17th minute. Senior defender Evan Brown drew a foul inside the 18-yard box, setting up a penalty kick for senior midfielder Sam Cronin. Cronin's kick sailed wide of the left post and kept the game scoreless.
RICHMOND, Va. – Tony Tchani scored the Cavaliers’ goal, a penalty kick in the 39th minute, but the Virginia men’s soccer team fell at VCU, 3-1, Saturday night in Richmond, Va. The game was scoreless in the first half until Virginia earned a penalty kick at the 38:10 mark of the period. Tony Tchani stepped up and converted the penalty kick to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Before halftime, VCU evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by Evan Slusser. The Rams extended their lead on a goal by Jorit Loehr in the 76th minute.
