GREENSBORO, N.C. - Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year Danny Glading of Virginia leads the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Glading, a senior Economics major, is a repeat ACC All-Academic team selection and an All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree for the third year in a row. He led Virginia with 63 total points and ranked 11th nationally in scoring. He also led the team with 31 assists and was third with 32 goals. He and Syracuse's Kenny Nims were the only two players in the country to score at least 30 goals and add at least 30 assists. The Bethesda, Md., native, was also named a Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). This is the fifth year in a row Virginia has had at least one player named to this team, the longest active streak among Division I schools.

Glading finished his career ranked in the top 10 in UVa history in goals (seventh), assists (tied for fifth) and points (tied for fifth). He finished his career with 119 goals and 104 assists to become only the sixth player in ACC history to reach 100 goals and 100 assists in a career. He was selected by the Washington Bayhawks with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse draft.

Two other men's lacrosse student-athletes who earned All-Conference honors this past season secured spots on the 28-member All-ACC Academic squad, while fourteen (14) were repeat honorees from last year's All-ACC Academic team. At this time, Duke's Michael Catalino is the only four-time selection in the history of the honor.

Joining Glading as student-athletes who earned both All-Academic and All-Conference honors in 2009 are Duke's Max Quinzani and Virginia's Mike Timms.

Duke placed twelve (12) student-athletes on the team for the third-straight year. Maryland followed with seven honorees, while Virginia and North Carolina had four and five, respectively.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
