CHARLOTTESVILLE - A memorial service for E. Doyle Smith, Jr., is scheduled for August 1 at Alumni Hall at the University of Virginia. Smith, a member of the UVa athletics media relations office staff for 31 years before his retirement in 1999 and a long-time lacrosse publicist, died on June 1 at the age of 60.

The service is scheduled for 2:00-5:00 p.m. Individuals are requested to send in or bring written anecdotes about Doyle. Anecdotes can be e-mailed to Doyle's sisters, Laurie Filstrup (lyfilstrup@yahoo.com) and Debby Cunningham (Dcunnin46@aol.com), or mailed to Rich Murray, Athletics Media Relations Office, P.O. Box 400853, Charlottesville, VA, 22904-4853. There will be an opportunity for individuals to tell stories or say a few words about Doyle during the service.

Follow Interstate 66 West from Washington to its intersection with State Highway 29 at Gainesville;

Follow 29 (South) to Charlottesville;

Upon approaching Charlottesville, continue South on 29 (Seminole Trail) through major intersections at Rio Road, Greenbrier Road, Hydraulic Road, and under the State Highway 29/250 Bypass (Seminole Trail changes to Emmet Street). Do not exit;

Continue on Emmet Street past major intersections at Barracks Road and Ivy Road/University Avenue;

Alumni Hall is located on the right (second block) at 211 Emmet Street. Enter between brick columns, park in front, and inquire about a parking pass.

From Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport:

Exit airport;

Follow Airport Road to its intersection with State Highway 29 (Seminole Trail);

Turn right (South) on 29 (Seminole Trail). Continue south on 29 (Seminole Trail) through major intersections at Rio Road, Greenbriar Road, Hydraulic Road, and under the State Highway 29/250 Bypass (Seminole Trail changes to Emmet Street. Do not exit;

From Lynchburg:

Follow State Highway 29 North towards Charlottesville.
