UNC Lacrosse Benefactor Cox Passes Away

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Jake Easter Cox, a long-time benefactor of the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program, passed away Sunday, June 30 from heart complications at UNC Hospitals.

Cox was the father of three sons who played lacrosse for Carolina--Randy, '84, Greg, '85, and Scott, '90.

Jake was a native of North Carolina who served in the military. He met his wide Carin while in the service in Germany. The Coxes settled on Long Island following Jake's military service but he and Carin eventually relocated to North Carolina.

Jake and Carin were married for 41 years. Jake is also survived by Randy and his wife Tonya; Greg and his wife Lisa; and Scott and his wife Sheri. There is one grandson as well as Jake's four brothers and one sister.

A mermorial service is slated for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Mebane.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to two organizations that made a lasting impact on Jake's life: Friends of Carolina Lacrosse, University of North Carolina, Men's Lacrosse Office, P.O. Box 2126, Chapel Hill, NC 27515-2126; and the Walk for Hope, P.O. Box 6357, Raleigh, NC 27628.
