Terps Place Four On College Lacrosse USA All-America Team
June 9, 2000 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Four Maryland men's lacrosse players were named to the College Lacrosse USA All-America team for 2000. Senior defenseman Casey Connor (Baltimore, Md.) was named to the first team. Juniors Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.) and Pat McGinnis (Ellicott City, Md.) were named to the third team. Freshman attacker Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) was named an honorable mention All-American. Connor had a stellar year for the Terps as the backbone of one of the nation's top defenses. He started all 16 games for the NCAA Quarterfinalists. Connor recorded 54 groundballs, second most among Maryland field players and scored one goal against UMBC in the regular-season finale. He will play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game this weekend. Connor was also named a second-team All-American by the USILA and AllLacrosseAmerica.com in 2000. Malone was named a third teamer at midfield after leading the Terps in goals with 28 and finishing second on the team in points with 39. Malone recorded a career-high four goals on two occasions this season against North Carolina and Johns Hopkins. Malone was also named a third-team All-American by the USILA and AllLacrosseAmerica.com in 2000. McGinnis had a breakout year in his first season between the pipes for Maryland. He ranked among the national leaders in goals against average and save percentage throughout the 2000 season. He finished with an 8.55 goals against average and a .616 save percentage and an 11-5 record, starting all 16 games. Mollot was the Terps' leading scorer and finished his first collegiate season with 47 points, including a team-high 32 assists. That assist total led all freshman in the nation. Mollot was sensational late in the season leading the Terps to the NCAA quarterfinals with a run of 19 points over three games.
