Charlottesville, Va. - Three University of Virginia men's lacrosse players were named to the USILA All-America team announced during the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.

Senior defenseman Brett Hughes was named second-team All-American for the second year in a row. A mainstay of the Cavalier defense throughout his career, Hughes was assigned to shut down some of the leading attackmen in the country. He was named Inside Lacrosse's Division I Player of the Week for his play in the Cavaliers' upset of then #1 Johns Hopkins in late March. He completely shutout All-American attackman Kyle Barrie. Barrie, who failed to even take a shot, did not record any assists either and saw his 31-game scoring streak end. Hughes scooped up 39 ground balls this season, fourth among Atlantic Coast Conference defensemen.

Senior goalie Tillman Johnson was named to the third team. He started all 59 games in his career and finished his career third in ACC history with a school-record 700 saves. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament in leading the Cavaliers to the national title last season. Johnson led the ACC this season with an average of 13.08 saves per game and was 13th nationally with a 59.4 save percentage.

Sophomore attackman Matt Ward joins Johnson on the third team. He was third in the ACC in both goals per game (2.54) and points per game (3.54). He led the team in goals on eight occasions. Ward particularly liked playing against North Carolina. He scored five goals in a regular-season loss to the Tar Heels, but came back to tally a career-best six goals to lead the Cavaliers to a win over them in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.
