Zink, Passavia Selected In First Round Of Major League Lacrosse Draft
June 4, 2004 FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Maryland's All-American defensemen Lee Zink and Chris Passavia were selected back-to-back in the first round of Major League Lacrosse's 2004 College Draft on Thursday night at Sacred Heart University. Zink was taken fifth overall by the Baltimore Bayhawks. Passavia was the sixth overall choice by the Boston Cannons. Maryland joined national champion Syracuse as the only schools to have more than one first-round draft pick. The Terps dynamic duo on the close defense continued to pile up honors as both were named USILA First Team All-Americans on Monday and were selected to the play in the 63rd Annual North/South All-Star Game on June 12. Zink will join four former Terps with the Bayhawks in defensemen Casey Connor and Brian Reese along with attacker Andrew Combs and midfielder Kip Fulks. Maryland assistant coach Paul Cantabene also plays for Baltimore. Passavia will be the only Terp on Boston's roster. Several other Terps are playing in Major League Lacrosse this season: goalie Brian Dougherty with Long Island, midfielders Mike Mollot and Nate Watkins along with defenseman Michael Howley with Rochester, midfielder Ryan Moran is with the Philadelphia Barrage while midfielder Chris Malone and defenseman Frank Luciano are with New Jersey.
