Three Tar Heel Lacrosse Players Named To USILA All-America Teams
May 26, 2007 BALTIMORE, MD. - Three members of the University of North Carolina's 2007 NCAA quarterfinalist team were named Saturday to the All-America teams tapped by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Carolina's three selections were highlighted by junior defenseman Tim Kaiser who was named a third-team selection. Kaiser, a native of Timonium, Md., and Loyola High School graduate, spearheaded UNC's close defense this past season. He had 69 ground balls, second on the Carolina team and the No. 1 ranked total in the country for close defensemen. He also had 32 caused turnovers, second in the country. Kaiser started all 16 games for Carolina in 2007 and had two goals and an assist for three points. Attackman Bart Wagner and midfielder Nick Tintle were both named honorable mention All-Americas. Wagner, from Glen Arm, Md., a St. Paul's School graduate, has been Carolina's leading scorer each of the past two seasons. He led the Heels this year with 44 points on 23 goals and 21 assists. He was second in the country among attackmen with 51 ground balls. He shared the team lead for man-up goals with Tintle, each scoring four. Tintle, a Levittown, N.Y. native (Levittown High School), was Carolina's top scorer in the short stick midfield corps. He had 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points and also gobbled up 28 ground balls. Carolina three All-America selections were the most for the Tar Heels since they had six choices in 2004. Carolina finished 10-6 this year and reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2004. After going 4-10 in 2006, the Tar Heels had the third most improved record in the nation this season.
