Men's Lacrosse Post Game Quotes
May 20, 2001
Johns Hopkins' Head Coach Dave Pietramala On the defeat "It's tough to sit on the locker room when you have as many seniors as we do and know it has come to an end very abruptly. I'm very, very proud of what our team has accomplished this year. I make no apologies for them. They've gone through adversities and challenges and injuries to get to this point."
On the play of Notre Dame - "I take my hat off to Notre Dame. They played better than we did today. They deserved to win."
"Today was no surprise to me or the team. The bottom line is we have an awful lot of respect for them. We prepared well for them. I don't think our game plan was the wrong way to play them, I just don't think we executed effectively. There's a reason that they were ranked No. 2 in the country at on point. We had an awful lot of respect for them going in and we have a lot of respect for them going out.
Sophomore Goalie Rob Scherr "They shot the ball regardless of whether they were covered or not."
Midfielder Bobby Benson (Notre Dame goalie Kirk) Howell played great. I think he was the difference in the game. He's one of the better goalies I've played against this year." Notre Dame Head Coach Kevin Corrigan "I thought it was a game of runs up to 8-8 when both teams got a little cautious for a short time there. We just caught a couple breaks. We made some plays. I think our defense had a couple of early mistakes that we identified a little more and Kirk Howell was great in the cage today."
On making it to the NCAA Semifinals - "It's a little early to think about being in the semifinals. I'm just excited for our kids. I also can't wait to get back and get prepared for Syracuse. It's one of those things that if you really believe you can get there and really have it as a true goal you cant be shocked when it happens. We're excited but this is where we hoped to be."
On the team shooting - "I thought we let some get away, no question about that. We felt like we had some good opportunities that we didn't cash in on but you can't really stop in the middle of the game and worry about that. We were concerned that we may stop doing the things offensively that were getting us those opportunities. Shooting is one of those things that if you think about and talk about it too much, it makes things worse. We just tried to concentrate on how we were getting those shots and I asked the guys to keep firing and keep their confidence and we felt like we would get some."
Notre Dame Goalie Kirk Howell on his game - "I thought I missed a couple early. I thought my defense played really well and the offense was there. I was just trying to keep it close for those guys."
Notre Dame Attack Tom Glatzel on Kirk Howell - "It was nice because when it was 8-8 and we were having trouble offensively, he was really strong. That really helped us with that push at the end."
