COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Notre Dame men's lacrosse team advanced to their first Final Four in school history with a 13-9 victory over No. 4 Johns Hopkins today in an NCAA quarterfinal today at Byrd Stadium.

The Fighting Irish (14-1) exploded for five goals in the fourth quarter, with the game-winner coming from Steve Bishko (West Islip, N.Y.) with 4:02 remaining. John Flandina (West Islip, N.Y) added a late goal and Jon Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) closed the scoring for Notre Dame, registering two goals in a 25-second span.

Johns Hopkins (8-4) took an early 3-1 lead five minutes into the first quarter before the Fighting Irish ripped off four consecutive goals and held on for a 7-5 halftime lead.

The Blue Jays scored three of the next four goals to tie the game at eight on Bobby Benson's (Baltimore, Md.) second goal of the game with 1:27 remaining in third quarter.

Flandina's goal with 6:29 remaining gave the Fighting Irish a 9-8 lead.

Tom Glatzel (Ellicott City, Md.) led Notre Dame with four goals and one assist, while Benson had three goals for the Blue Jays.

Notre Dame advances to face top-seeded Syracuse in the NCAA semifinals next Saturday at Rutgers University. The Fighting Irish and Orange will face-off in the first game of the semis at Noon, in a game that will be televised live on ESPN2.
