COLLEGE PARK, Md.- In the quarterfinal round of the 2001 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships, No. 6 Towson leads No. 3 Maryland 8-6 at halftime. After Maryland's Alex Poole scored the game's first goal at 13:51, Towson ripped off five-straight including three by Josh Tankersley. The Terrapins closed the quarter with three goals in the final 25 seconds including a pair by Dan LaMonica.
In the second quarter, Towson kept the pressure on by scoring the period's first two goals. Kyle Campbell got the first tally and Danny Cocchi scored the second for the Tigers. Maryland scored its first goal of the period when Chris Malone scored at 9:13. Another goal for Towson by Brad Reppert with the extra man pushed the Tiger lead back to 8-5. With 3:03 remaining, Malone scored his second of the contest to pull the Terrapins to within two at 8-6.
