CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Two more prospects have committed to play for the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program, bringing the total of new freshmen the Tar Heels will welcome in 2001-2002 to 11.

The spring commitments join nine other players who signed on with Carolina last fall. "I'm pleased with the quality of the players who committed to come to Carolina next year," says UNC head coach John Haus. "With the returning players we have I am looking forward to next year and am confident we can improve. We will still be a young team but we are looking for our seniors and juniors to provide the leadership and our freshmen and sophomores to step up and give us the depth we need to be a contender in the NCAA Tournament."

Carolina's two commitments this spring are midfielder Matt McIntosh and goalkeeper Paul Spellman. McIntosh is a high school All-America middie who plays at the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tenn. Spellman is a 2000 alumnus of St. Pauls School where he started in the goal for two years. The Hunt Valley, Md. native attended classes at Loyola College in Baltimore this past year but did not play lacrosse. Spellman helped lead St. Pauls to a Maryland Scholastic Association runner-up finish one of his two starting years at the school.

These two players give Carolina a balanced recruiting class, which includes three attackmen, four midfielders, three defensemen and one goalkeeper. Players who committed in the fall are attackmen Drew Habeck, Michael McCall and Jed Prossner, midfielders Paul Burnett, Teddy Hayes and Bryant Will , defensemen Charles Conkling, David DiBianco and Jordan LaSeta.
