COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- No. 3 seed Maryland (13-2) faces longtime rival No. 6 seed Towson (13-3) in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Byrd Stadium this Sunday in the first game of doubleheader beginning at noon. No. 4 seed Johns Hopkins (8-3) takes on No. 5 seed Notre Dame (13-1) in the second game.

The Terps and Tigers have many story lines on and off the lacrosse field. Maryland won this season's annual regular-sea-son meeting with the Tigers, 9-7, on March 10 at Minnegan Stadium. The Terps have won six straight games over Towson, dating to the 1995 season.

Overall, the Terps hold an 18-4 lead in the series that dates to match-up in 1971. After a nine-year hiatus, the series was renewed in 1981 and the teams have played every year since, except 1989.

Towson won the only NCAA Tournament meeting, a 15-11 Tigers win the 1991 NCAA semifinals at Syracuse.
