Greer & Danowski Lead Top-Seeded Duke Past Providence, 18-3

DURHAM, N.C. -- Top-seeded Duke received five goals from Zack Greer while Matt Danowski dished out a career-high seven assists as the Blue Devils defeated Providence, 18-3, in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils improve to 15-2 overall and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals to meet the winner of Navy-North Carolina next Sunday in Annapolis, Md. The win marked Duke's 11th victory at home this year, breaking the previous school single-season record of 10 set by the 2005 club.

Carolina's Fourth-Quarter Run Propels Tar Heels Into NCAA Quarterfinals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Eighth-seeded North Carolina outscored Navy 5-1 in the fourth quarter and utilized a terrific performance by sophomore goalkeeper Grant Zimmerman to defeat the Midshipmen 12-8 in the first-round of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament Sunday afternoon before 1,615 at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004 and UNC will play top-seeded Duke for the third time this season next Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Game time will be set Monday.

The win was only Carolina's second in the NCAA Tournament since 1993. The victory broke a five-game losing streak for the Tar Heels against the Midshipmen and it avenged a 19-8 loss to the Mids on March 2 of this season in a game played at Annapolis.

Delaware Rolls to 14-8 Win over Virginia in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Charlottesville, Va. - Delaware used a five-goal second half run to build a lead and take control en route a 14-8 win over Virginia in the first round of the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament today at Klöckner Stadium.

With the win Delaware advances to next Sunday's quarterfinal to face the winner of tonight's UMBC at Maryland game in Annapolis, Md. The Blue Hens are now 12-5 this season.

UMBC defeated Maryland, 13-9. Story to follow.
