GREENSBORO, N.C. - Picking up his second consecutive and third overall Player of the Year title is Duke's senior attackman Matt Danowski, who headlines this year's All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team, as announced Thursday evening.
Joining Danowski on the All-ACC team are attackmen Zack Greer and Max Quinzani and defender Tony McDevitt. The trio of attackmen (Danowski, Greer and Quinzani) accounted for 54 percent of the team's goals this season (117 of 218). The Blue Devils posted a perfect 3-0 record in ACC regular season play for the third time in the past four years and own a 13-1 mark on the season. In addition, the trio becomes just the second attack unit in league history to have all three members garner All-ACC honors, joining Virginia's group of Doug Knight, Michael Watson and Tim Whiteley who received all-conference accolades in 1996.
Earning the ACC Freshman of the Year honor is Duke's rookie defender Mike Manley. The five-year letterman at Penn Yan Academy tallied one goal, one assist and 22 ground balls for the Blue Devils, participating and starting in 13 games this season for Duke.
This year's Coach of the Year honors went to Maryland's Dave Cottle, who holds a 256-102 career record in his 26 years of service. His win total is fourth among active coaches and owns a 75-32 (70.1) record in his seven seasons at Maryland. The Terrapins hold an 8-4 overall mark this season and finished 2-1 in ACC play this season, landing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Championship.
