![]() Maryland's Jason Carter Earns ACC Weekly Men's Lacrosse Accolades
April 2, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Jason Carter was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, March 30. The redshirt junior had a career-day, making a career-best 15 saves, to help lead fourth-ranked Maryland to a 13-7 win over No. 1 Virginia in front of more than 4,000 fans at Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium and a national television audience tuning in on ESPN2. Seven of Carter's 15 saves came in the first half and helped hold the Cavaliers to just three goals, their lowest total at the half all season. Coming into the game Virginia had averaged more than eight goals in the first half of play. Maryland took a 9-3 lead into halftime, marking the first time this year that Virginia trailed at the half. Carter also was a key contributor on Maryland's clears. The Terps went 21-of-23 (.913) on clears against the Wahoos. Entering the game, Virginia opponents had been successful on less than 70 percent of their clearing attempts. The win was Maryland's first over a No. 1-ranked team since March 4, 2006 and the first over a No. 1 team at home since 1996 when the Terps defeated Virginia, 13-11. Maryland returns to Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium on Friday, April 4 for a primetime showdown with No. 9 Navy. The Terps and the Mids are set for an 8 p.m. face-off. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and locally in the Baltimore area on WMAR. -ACC-
