Duke Downed by Hoyas in NCAA Men's Lax, 17-10

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Greg McCavera had four goals as fifth-seeded Georgetown beat No. 4 Duke 17-10 on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Lacrosse championship.

Georgetown's win was its first ever over Duke in 13 games, including a 10-8 loss this season. The Hoyas (13-2) advanced to the final four for the first time with their school-record eighth straight win.

McCavera also had two assists, while Tyler Gamble and Brendan Henehan each had three goals and an assist for Georgetown.

Adam Dretler had three goals for Duke (13-3).

Brendan Keaney's goal at 7:35 of the second period gave Duke its last lead, 7-6, but Georgetown answered with three straight goals. Henehan and McCavera scored in a 28-second span late in the second quarter and Gamble made it 9-7 at 1:01 of the third quarter.

Georgetown's Brian Hole had 17 saves, while Duke's Matt Breslin had 14.

In Saturday's other quarterfinal, Dan Denihan scored four goals as No. 2 Johns Hopkins beat No. 7 Hofstra 11-7. Johns Hopkins, which has won seven national titles, will play the winner of Sunday's game between No. 3 Virginia and unseeded Delaware in the semifinals, while Georgetown will play the winner of Sunday's game between top-seeded Loyola, Md. and No. 8 Syracuse.

The semifinals are May 29 at Maryland's Byrd Stadium.
