Hochstadt Scores Six Goals as Terps Top Yale, 9-4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Scott Hochstadt (Columbia, Md./Boys Latin) scored a season-high six goals to lift the ninth-ranked Maryland Terrapins past the 15th-ranked Yale Bulldogs in mens lacrosse, 9-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Yale Lacrosse Stadium. Hochstadt, who has totaled 10 goals in Marylands last two games, scored five of the Terps first six goals as Maryland built a 6-3 halftime lead.

Senior Brian Haggerty (Lido Beach, N.Y./Lido Beach) and sophomore Chris Malone (Timonium, Md./Loyola) scored in the third and fourth quarters, respectively to put the Terps up 8-4. Then Hochstadt closed out his stellar day with his sixth tally of the game with 6:43 left in the fourth quarter for the final, 9-4 margin.

Hochstadt, who also had an assist on Malones goal to total seven points, now has 117 career goals at Maryland to move into a tie for fifth on the all-time Maryland goal scoring list with Jim Wilkerson (1980-83). He also has 148 career points to stand 18th on the Terps all-time scoring list.

Marylands other goal came from senior Brian Zeller (Forest Hill, Md./Loyola), who along with Haggerty and Malone, was one of three Terps with a goal and an assist in the game.

The Terps (8-4) dominated the game from the start, outshooting Yale, 12-1 in the first quarter on their way to outshooting them 36-21 in the game. Maryland also dominated the groundballs, scooping up 53 as compared to 27 for Yale. The Terps also won 13 of 17 face-offs led by Haggerty, who corraled 10 of 14 and senior Chris Nohe (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall), who won all three of his draws.

Yale, which finishes its season 7-6, received a strong game from senior goalie Joe Pilch, who made 22 saves to close out his career. Marylands Kevin Healy (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) made 11 saves, all in the second half.

The Terps return to action this Wednesday in a make-up game at Towson, beginning 7:30 at Minnegan Stadium. The originally scheduled game was snowed out on March 14.
