DURHAM, N.C. - Senior attackman John ODonnells shot with 3:05 remaining in the overtime period lifted Duke to a 10-9 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers at Duke Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday. With the win, second-ranked Duke improves to 10-1 on the season and finishes the ACC regular season with a 2-1 record, earning the No. 1 seed in next weeks conference tournament. Virginia, ranked fourth nationally, drops to 6-3, 2-1 in the league.

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, led by junior T.J. Durnan, who scored three of Dukes first four goals. The Cavaliers, responded with two goals in the first quarter and three more in the third to reduce the Blue Devil lead to two, 7-5, at halftime.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter as the defenses had control. In the fourth quarter, Duke went up 8-5 at the 14:23 mark on a Jared Frood shot from Durnan. The Cavaliers responded with three straight goals from David Jenkins, Jay Jalbert and Hanley Holcomb, his second of the game, to tie the game at eight goals apiece.

Duke won the face-off in the sudden death overtime period, and then had three shots at the goal before ODonnells shot went in at the 3:05 mark.

ODonnell added two goals for the Blue Devils, the final goal in regulation as well as the overtime shot.
