Blue Devils Down Harvard, 6-2
April 3, 1999 NEW CANAAN, Conn. - The second-ranked Duke men's lacrosse team remained undefeated in 1999 with a 14-9 victory over Harvard on Saturday. With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 8-0 on the season, their best start in the 62-year history of the program. Harvard, unranked going into today's contest, surprised Duke with a pair of goals and keeping the Blue Devils scoreless in the opening frame. However, Duke stormed back with a five-goal second period to lead 5-4 at intermission. Duke then outscored the Crimson 4-1 to start the third stanza, paced by a pair of goals by Nick Hartofilis. The Crimson got a pair of late-period goals to stay close, as the quarter ended with a 10-7 Duke advantage. The Blue Devils finished strong, connecting on four of seven of its shots in the final frame to come away with the five-goal win. Hartofilis finished the day with four goals, while teammates Jared Frood, Greg Patchak and Chris Kakel all had two goals apiece for the Blue Devils. T.J. Durnan and John O'Donnell each tallied one goal and two assists, while Scott Diggs added one goal/one assist and Adam Dretler scored one goal for Duke.
The Blue Devils return to Durham for a three-game homestand, which
begins on Saturday, April 10 against UMass at 1:00 p.m.
