Second Half Surge Lifts UNC Past Denver, 7-4
March 14, 1999 DENVER, Colo. - The University of North Carolina scored five straight second-half goals en route to a 7-4 victory over the University of Denver in men's lacrosse action at the DU Field Sunday afternoon. The win is the second in a row for the Tar Heels (4-2) while the Pioneers fall to 0-4 on the year. DU jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter lead thanks to goals by sophomores Ross Turco (Princeton, N.J) and Mike Law (Englewood, Colo.). North Carolina rallied to knot the score at two at the game's halfway mark on goals by Justin Bowman and Matt Crofton. Law gave the Pioneers a 3-2 third-quarter advantage but the Tar Heels roared ahead with tallies by Jeremy Carey, Jeff Sonke, Joel Miller, Chase Martin and Tim Gosier and took a 7-3 lead with 6:25 remaining in the game. Turco closed the scoring with a marker at 5:27. DU was led offensively by Turco, who scored two goals and added
one assist. Law pitched in two goals for the Pioneers. Chase Martin
paced North Carolina with a goal and two assists.
