Senior midfielder Kevin Cassese scored a career-high five goals as eighth-ranked Duke defeated Lehigh, 17-6, in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham.

The win pushes the Blue Devils to 5-1 on the year while the Mountain Hawks fall to 3-2.

Both Cassese and Kevin Brennan topped the 100-point barrier with their scoring performances on Tuesday afternoon. Brennan assisted on a Cassese goal at the 6:16 mark of the opening period for his 100th career point and Cassese's unassisted goal at the 7:44 mark of the fourth quarter served as his 100th career point. Brennan now has 103 career points on 60 goals and 43 points while Cassese has 67 goals and 34 assists for 101 points. The two seniors become the 29th and 30th members of Duke's 100-point club.

Lehigh jumped on top 1-0 at the 8:50 mark of the first quarter when Andrew Lucas found the back of the net on a pass from Greg Morin. Duke then scored three consecutive goals as Mack Hardaker, Matt Monfett and Cassese tallied to give the Blue Devils a 3-1 lead. Tony Lowe scored the first of his two goals on the day with just under five minutes remaining in the opening period to pull the Mountain Hawks to within 3-2.

The Blue Devils opened the second quarter with three goals in the first 2:11 before back-to-back scores by Mike Titus and Connor McCarthy made the score 6-4 in favor of Duke. Matt Rewkowski and Cassese scored goals at the 4:40 and 3:13 marks for an 8-4 lead before McCarthy's extra man goal at the 1:25 sent the teams into halftime with Duke leading, 8-5.

Duke then outscored Lehigh 9-1 in the second half as Brennan and Cassese combined for five goals. Brennan's goal just 10 seconds into the third quarter was followed by Cassese's score from Monfett just 1:22 later. Lowe tallied for Lehigh at the 11:22 mark of the third quarter before Duke closed the game with seven straight goals.

Cassese finished with seven points on five goals and two assists while Monfett logged three goals and two assists. Brennan, Hardaker and Ben Fenton each had two goals. For Lehigh, Lowe and McCarthy scored twice while Mike McConnell recorded two assists.
